DID YOU KNOW?
The lantern festivals have pagan roots and give honor to Buddha?

This information is meant to educate the reader on the origins of lantern lighting. Once the truth has been presented, we all have the right to choose what we do in life. Everyone has a right to know the truth, and what you do after that is up to you. If you are NOT trying to live for YaHuWaH and YaHuWShuWA then this information will not pertain to you.
The Lantern Festival
These pagan lantern festivals are very popular and take place all over the world. In the Americas, it has been adopted by all races and thousands flock to Miami, Ohio, Philly and Kentucky (just to name a few) to take part in this pagan event. It’s an estimated 4.5 million dollar business and is expected to only increase as the years go by. Since we live in the age of technology, finding the truth and origins of any matter is right at our finger tips. For those who claim they love the Creator and follow the word, they are instructed to be QaDaSh and MUST show separation.
The problem is not that the truth can’t be found, it’s the FACT that once it is discovered,people proudly continue in it. This is the main reason these pagan traditions continue,it is because those who KNOW it’s pagan are too afraid to stand alone. Scripture warned that a time will come that people (even those in the truth) will run from correction and truth. They will seek after their OWN desires and compromise and accept fables (a speech, word or saying, a narrative, story, fiction, a fable, an invention, a falsehood).
2 Timothy 4:1-4
1 I charge thee therefore before ALaHiYM, and the Master YaHuWShuWA MaShiYaCh, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom;
2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine.
3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
Falling on the 15th day of the first lunar month, Lantern Festival is the first significant feast after Chinese New Year, so called because the most important activity during the night of the event is watching various wonderful Chinese lanterns. The Chinese New Year holiday comes to its climax with the Yuan Xiao, or Lantern Festival. Lantern Festival is celebrated on the fifteenth day of the Lunar New Year – as the first full moon appears. Its origins date back to the Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 25), when Buddhist monks would light lanterns in order to worship Buddha.

Originating over 2000 years ago, the festival has developed many meanings. It celebrates family reunions and society. It features ancient spiritual traditions. Some also call this the “true” Chinese Valentine’s Day. The many activities include lighting lanterns, riddles, lion dances, eating rice balls and moon gazing. Moon gazing is meditation / concentration technique that is performed before Hatha Yoga postures and breathing exercises. Those that practice this believe the moon is a powerful meditation object because of its influence on the subtle psychic energy and dream functions. The moon gazer stares at the moon as long as you can without blinking. They imagine the moon as an experience happening inside of them. They are instructed that If the mind wanders off, they go right back to the moon or its inner imprint in their mind.
Scripture warns against this type of moon worship, for it causes a person to look to the moon for comfort and stability; and not toward the Creator of the moon, YaHuWaH ALaHiYM! This type of moon idol worship or custom is exactly why YaHuWaH had the city of Jericho destroyed!
The English word “Jericho” in the ABaRiY, is H3405: YaRiYuW and means “its moon”.
Early in Canaanite religion, the male moon-god, "Yerach" (H3391 lunar cycle, moon) was the chief god of the pantheon (famous god of a people). The female sun-god, "Shamash," was his cohort.) Later, these were changed to BaAL and Ashteroth. The cult of the sun-god and moon-god (or goddess) was at its height in very early times and STILL today its customs hold strong.
In Palestine, there seem to have been two cities associated with moon worship, both facing east. One was Beit-Yerach (house / temple of the moon) on the southwest shore of the Sea of Galilee. The other was Jericho, with the broad Jordan valley extending eastward. The former ceased to be inhabited by ca. 2000 BC. However Jericho was a leading city in YaHuWShuWA’s (Joshua's) time (1400 BC) and likely the seat of moon worship. If the moon was the chief of the Canaanite pantheon, it would be a very strategic city to take indeed!
25 Who changed the truth of ALaHiYM into a lie, and worshiped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. AMaN.
According to the lunar calendar, the festival takes place on January 15. Dates of past and future Lantern Festivals using the Gregorian calendar include:
2016: February 22nd
2017: February 11th
2018: February 16th
2019: February 19th
2020: February 8th
The Spring Festival is a time reserved for families. There is a huge family reunion dinner on New Year’s Eve, visits to in-laws on the 2nd day and neighbors / friends after that. Stores reopen on the 5th and society basically goes back to normal. On a more serious note, the Lantern Festival also has deep religious aspects. Their ritualistic practices were important in ancient Chinese paganism, and also in modern-day Buddhism and ethnic minority cultures.
Monks light and send up lanterns to their ALaHiYM Buddha
The general consensus is that the festival began more than 2000 years ago in the Western Han dynasty. Emperor Wu designated this day for worship rituals unto Taiyi (the reincarnation of the first emperor of the Shang dynasty, Tang of Shang), one of the universe’s sovereigns. Intense power play and unrest came after his reign. The new emperor was Emperor Wen, and in attempt to celebrate the return of peace, Emperor Wen made the 15th a national holiday. Every household would light candles and lanterns, and it became known as “nào yuán xiāo” or simply “Nao” (aka Lateran Festival). This can be interpreted as having fun, or going wild with excitement (Saturnalia, Lupricalia, etc)
Emperor Ming of the later Eastern Han was a devout Buddhist. He heard that on the 15th, monks would light candles for the Buddha. He ordered the palace and temples to light candles, and for the citizens to hang lanterns. Both events combined and eventually developed into the Lantern Festival we know today. Some regions also burn lanterns to determine the gender of their future child from the shape of the ashes.
In the early days, the Lantern Festival was also called Shang Yuan. It was dedicated to the heavenly palaces. People would gather in their yards and give offerings to the gods. The lit lantern near the setup represented a god’s seat.

Young children taking part in pagan customs handed down by their parents
Sadly, the masses again take part in another pagan custom, having NO IDEA why they do what they do! NOT once in scripture do we read that the ABaRiY people took part in such pagan traditions. People of ALL races take part in this seemingly fun and innocent ritual, and even Negros are quick to take part in it, because they have NO IDEA who and who’s they are!
DaBaRiYM 12:30-32 “Deuteronomy”
30 Take heed to thyself that thou be not snared by following them, after that they be destroyed from before thee; and that thou enquire not after their ALaHiYM’s, saying, How did these nations serve their ALaHiYM’s? even so will I do likewise.
31 Thou shalt not do so unto YHWH thy ALaHiYM for every abomination to the Lord, which he hateth, have they done unto their ALaHiYM’s; for even their sons and their daughters they have burnt in the fire to their ALaHiYM’s.
32 What thing soever I command you, observe to do it: thou shalt not add thereto, nor diminish from it.
DaBaRiYM 28:64 “Deuteronomy”
64 And YHWH shall scatter thee among all people, from the one end of the earth even unto the other; and there thou shalt serve other ALaHiYM’s, which neither thou nor thy fathers have known, even wood and stone.
ShaMuWTh 20:3-5 “Exodus”
3 Thou shalt have no other ALHiYM’s before me.
4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.
5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I YHWH thy ALaHiYM am a jealous ALaHiYM, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;
For those who walk in truth, in everything we do we should ALWAYS ask the question, “Who is getting the esteem for what I am about to do?” We can’t let our friends, family or spouse become our ALaHiYM, which will make us waver from the truth. As Christians and the masses celebrate or take part in lighting Lanterns (that are then sent up into the sky), let this custom remind us of the ancient pagan origins this holiday or ritual has.
2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of ALaHiYM.
When you are seeking the kingdom of YaHuWaH ALaHiYM first (and not your own kingdom or to please your spouse, family or friends), you will make time to seek knowledge and truth, thus knowing certain customs DO NOT please YaHuWaH!
“CHOOSE YE THIS DAY WHO YOU WILL SERVE!”
YaHuWShuWA 24:15 “Joshua”
15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve YHWH, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the ALaHiYM’s which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the ALaHiYM’s of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve YHWH.
Unlearn, Deprogram and Re-think EVERYTHING you were taught!
Once the truth is given to a person, if that person TRULY loves the Creator, YHWH is expecting that they make an immediate change, NOT take their sweet time getting there when they feel like it!
30 And the times of this ignorance YHWH winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent
If you DON'T believe us regrading these facts, GOOD! Go do your own research, ASK YOUR PASTOR and find out for yourself, but NOW you cant say "you didn't know!"
2 KaPha 2:21 "Peter"
21 For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.
ABaRiY 10:26 "Hebrews"
26 For if we sin willfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins
